Did you know that friction is the leading cause of sunless tan fade? If anything rubs against your skin, cells rub off. Clothing, seat belts, even your towel when you get out of the shower cause friction and ultimately, rub off. Think about it…. We are constantly losing skin cells. Like, 30,000 to 40,000 in a minute. Seriously. That averages out to 9 pounds of skin cells a year. Are you grossed out yet? This is why proper skincare is so important. When you have a spray tan, only the top layers of skin are actually tanned. We want to keep those skin cells as long as possible. Obviously, those are all going to naturally fall off in the next 7 to 21 days but there are several simple steps to take to ensure you get the most out of their tan.
- Drink plenty of water- The skin is the last organ of the body to benefit from drinking water, so fill up that cup one more time!
- Exfoliate– use the simple Sjolie Sugar Scrub to gently and effectively exfoliate off excessively dry skin cells anywhere from 5 to 24 hours prior to your spray tan.
- Pat Dry- when getting out of the shower rather than rub with your towel, simply pat the skin dry.
- Moisturize– friction and daily evaporation of the skin cause rub off. To keep it at a minimum we recommend using the Sjolie Tan Extend moisturizer to keep the skin tan, even and moisturized.
In most cases, blotchy or uneven fading of a spray tan is typically because you are not following steps one through four above, and with a little bit of effort, you’ll never run into the issue of uneven fading or blotchy patches in your spray tan.
