The Differences Between the Sjolie Solution Line: A Guide on When to Use Which Solution

VLOG

Not every person is exactly the same, so why should every sunless tanning solution be the same?  When servicing your clients, it’s important to know why certain products are better for them than others.  This will ensure that you provide them with not only outstanding service, but a spray tan that best fits their needs and looks natural, even and flawless.

The Sjolie line consists of four Aloe based solutions and three alcohol based solutions.  One of the alcohol based solutions is the Ultra One Rapid Tan.  This solution is in a class of its own, and it will be discussed in further detail later in this blog.  So, the big question remains: what are the differences between the aloe based solutions and alcohol based solutions?

Drying Time

The Aloe based solutions (6, 9, 12, Dark Depth) are going to be more moisturizing on the skin, therefore will take longer to dry after applied

Aloe solutions will feel tackier for a longer period while developing (this means it’s working!)

The alcohol based solutions (Icon Reserve and Ultra) which will dry faster than Aloe and won’t feel as ‘tacky’ or wet as they develop

Development Time

The Tier 1 and Tier 2 solutions have a 6-8 hour development

The Aloe solutions have 6-8 hour development

The Ultra has a 4 hour development

Tan Longevity (assuming proper pre and post tan care)

The Aloe based solutions are going to last a bit longer; about 7-10 days

The alcohol lasts closer to 5-7 days (including Ultra)

When deciding which type of solution will work best on your client’s skin and give them the best results, consider the following:

  1. Do they tend to have dry skin?
  2. Do they moisturize regularly?
  3. Do they live in a geographical area that is humid?
  4. Is the climate for which they live dry?
  5. Are they going on vacation and want the tan to last a long time?
  6. Are they going straight to work after their session where they have to wear undergarments and fitted clothing?

If you answered YES to A, D, E then perhaps the Aloe based solutions are a better fit.  If the answer was YES to B, C, F then your client might prefer the alcohol based solutions.  Of course, keep in mind your client’s preferences when deciding which solution to use.  This is simply a guide to help you as the technician make recommendations.

One of the most versatile solutions you can incorporate into your services is the Ultra One Rapid Tan.  This solution is an option for those who do not have the time to let a tan develop for the full 6-8 hours before rinsing.  While this tan has the same properties as the other alcohol based solutions, it may be rinsed after a maximum of 4 hours and the color will continue to develop over the course of 24 hours.

Keep all of these factors in mind when preparing to spray your clients.  This will set you apart from other technicians who aren’t as educated on the solution lines they use.  Again, knowing the differences and benefits to each product will allow you to make the best decision for your clients and set them up for a flawless tan every time.
